This year saw amazing weather (36 Degrees!) combined with a great atmosphere and crowd full of music loving hipsters wearing an abundance of glitter, tie die, denim, flower crowns & matching two piece get-ups, flocking together to catch a glimpse of their favourite musicians at Footscray's Arts Centre.
St Jerome's Laneway Festival is an urban music experience like none other in the world, with the amazing scenery of Melbourne city in the backdrop, this amazingly well organised indie festival was a breath of fresh air with the super (not so commercial) lineup of talent such as Savages, Cloud Control, Danny Brown, Four Tet (Official), Frightened Rabbit, Jagwar Ma, King Krule, Earl Sweatshirt, just to name a few.
Not only did they have double Grammy winner Lorde playing but the bill also boasts Vance Joy who beat her to No 1 in the triple J Hottest 100. Its no wonder the festival was a sell out.
Females vocalists seemed to be leading the pack & rocking it out this year such as Haim, The Jezabels & pocket rocket Lauren Mayberry from CHVRCHES who captivated the crowd with her kinetic pop energy. A real treat as Warpaint make their comeback, the LA foursome really know how to cast a spell over you with their darkly sexy tones leaving the crowd in awe.
Lorde, the queen bee of Laneway, put on an effortless, slick performance as the audience embraced her down to earth quirkiness.
I praise this festival, with so much emerging and established talent, the day offered an array of sounds from start to finish. If anything the main complaint I would have is that with the talent spread across four stages it was simply impossible to see everyone I would have liked to.
